How do hydrogen fuel cells work? | |
I am curious as to how fuel cells will work in automobiles
I know we don't "as of yet", but I'm curious as to the "principal" of their operation.
Answers:
1Sorry TJ--they do. Hydrogen fuel cells have a speical membrane where the nuclei of hydrogen atoms slip through the membrane, causing H+ on one side of the membrane with the electrons left over on the other side of the membrane, maintaining an electrical potential. The electrons can go through a wire and do electrical work.
Currently they are using fuel cells with methanol and hydrocarbons. There are H2 only fuel cells, but they are very very new. See the video in the link.
