The most simple element in the chart of Mendelejev, is hydrogen. One atom in hydrogen consists of only one proton and one electron, however, it does not occur naturally – it has to be combined with other elements. The large majority of hydrogen is nowadays separated from hydrocarbons through the application of heat. This can only be possible because hydrocarbons make up many of our fuels, such as gasoline, natural gas, methanol, and propane. Although, there is a way to use electrical current to separate water into its components of oxygen and hydrogen, nowadays, this is the most common way of making hydrogen.
A great advantage of hydrogen is that it produces almost no pollution, so in times where greenhouse effect is taking over, it is the way of producing energy that everyone approve.
It is believed that in the near future, fuel cells might be used as a source of heat and electricity not for only cars but buildings also.
There are many advantages that support using hydrogen as an energy source, so that the high price is forgotten. So it should be reminded that however it is better for the environment, it also cost a lot more and so it might not be affordable for everyone.
